SUBMITTING TO THIS STRANGE FRUIT
"This Strange Fruit", a poetry magazine, is looking for free-verse/narrative/metrical poetry encompassing the unusual, the bizarre, the radical, the subversive and the avante garde.
Please submit your BEST work, spell-checked naturally, free of unnecessary and unwanted excesses like splatterpunk gore, torture porn, scattological ramblings, overt sexual pornography (although a poem can be sexy), and political rantings.
No rhyming poetry. No "cool for the sake of cool". That's not only boring, it's UNcool.
No thinly-disguised, sappy pseudo-Goth song lyrics, okay? That stuff blows.
No thinly-disguised death-metal song lyrics, if you please. We're looking for actual Poetry.
No thinly-disguised country western song lyrics, either. We don't want to have to hurt anyone. We want PO-E-TRY.
And we don't want to read about the joys of working in your garden, nostalgic reminiscing about high school, poems dedicated to your dog/cat/car, or any elegies to grandmothers/fathers/sisters/brothers/girlfriends/boyfriends. Please, find someone ELSE to bore.
We want to shake up the Status Quo -- and with thought-provoking, quality work.
Be imaginative, inventive, scary, astonishing, blur or erase the borders of the map and venture into territories you never before visited and please do it in under 60 lines. Very brief Bizarro-school literary works and poetry are welcome, but see the above warnings about pornography and lurid scattological excesses. Don't go there.
And if you've got artwork to accompany the poem, it is more than welcome, but I'm a picky so-and-so and an artist myself, so it had better be artwork of good quality and relevant to the work.
Send submissions, limited to 2 (two) poems per submission, to "Grymmscape_15@yahoo.com" in the body of an email, no attachments, with the words "Submit to THIS STRANGE FRUIT" and your name in the email's Subject line.
Thank you. Now let's see what you've got...
